The Sizemores lived in the Leighton community in Alabama, not far from Florence. They ran a classic country store that Percy Sledge used to sweep for them before “When a Man Loves a Woman” became a major hit record.
My father and brother hunted with the Sizemores on a regular basis after meeting them through me. I had met the son, David, when we were both on the college’s rifle team.
On one occasion, the Sizemores became concerned when three or four of their dogs failed to appear to eat. When they began a search for the missing dogs, it soon became obvious from the odor concentrated at the back of the old hunting car that the missing dogs had been left locked in the trunk of that car after their last hunting trip.
